Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
iTWire
has gone to Canberra - permanently! In an Australian first, iTWire has
become the only specialist technology publication with an office in the
Parliament House Press Gallery.
In a gala event at Parliament
House on 23 November 2009, iTWire hosted a cocktail party attended by
numerous members of parliament, senior parliamentary officials and ICT
industry heads to celebrate the opening of the iTWire Parliament House
office.
Special guest speaker of the evening was the Minister for
Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen
Conroy, who warmly welcomed iTWire to Parliament House.
In his
welcoming address, Senator Conroy paid tribute to the important role
that iTWire plays in spreading the word and keeping the public informed
on the key issues of the fast growing digital economy:
"iTWire is
an important part of Australia’s evolving digital economy.
"As a
specialist news service, it plays a valuable role exploring and
articulating the issues, challenges and opportunities that face the
government, ICT industry sector and broader community.
"As with
many specialist publications, iTWire provides focussed and in-depth
coverage on a wide range of industry-specific topics.
Senator Stephen Conroy
"It helps
set the agenda and provides an important reference for mainstream media
as stories make their way through the news cycle.
"Not that ICT
is niche!
"In fact, the launch of iTWire’s Press Gallery office
highlights the very prominent role for information, communication and
digital technologies in the emerging economy."
As the Minister
noted, Governments represent by far the largest ICT procurement sector
in Australia.
"iTWire being here in Parliament House is testament
to the growing influence of digital technology throughout our economy.
It highlights the way ICT and broadband are now very much part of the
political and economic agenda," Senator Conroy said.
The Minister
concluded by extending a personal welcome to the iTWire National
Affairs Correspondent James Riley, who will man the Parliament House
Press Gallery office.
"It gives me great pleasure to welcome
James Riley to the Press Gallery and to wish the team all the very best
of luck as they establish their position," Minister Conroy said.
The Minister also quipped during the course of his entertaining speech
that it will be a welcome change to get some "accurate reporting" about
ICT issues from first hand sources inside Parliament House rather than
"entertaining reports" from iTWire's competitors.
As the only first hand specialist provider of ICT news in Parliament
House, iTWire will be the only place where you get in-depth Federal
Government ICT news and views direct from the source.
