Tassie Govt targets NBN opportunities for locals

IT Policy - Government Tech Policy

The Tasmanian Government wants to maximise the chances of local companies getting work during the construction phase of the National Broadband Network roll-out, launching a web portal that highlights NBN sub-contractor opportunities.

State Treasurer Michael Aird said the Industry Capability Network Tasmania portal would include a section specific to the local industry's potential for the NBN.

The ICN Tasmania is a part of the Industry Capability Network program that attempts to highlight major projects – both public and private sectors – for participation by Australian and New Zealand companies.

"The NBN rollout, through NBN Tasmania, presents an ideal opportunity for Tasmanian businesses to become involved," Aird said.

"NBN Tasmania has an established panel of contractors already engaged on building the NBN and the new web portal will allow additional local companies to put their capabilities in front of these contractors," he said.

Aird said local companies that match the required industry classifications should register their details on the portal and that this information would be passed to the contractor panel.

"NBN Tasmania and the panel contractors are committed to maximising as much local content as possible and this web portal will be an important tool for them and for local industry," Mr Aird said.

The Tasmania web portal can be found here, while the major projects gateway is here.
