Government funded e-marketing kit hits 10,000 downloads in days

IT Policy - Government Tech Policy

A joint state government funded online marketing course for Australian tourism operators is being downloaded by the bucket load by local operators, catching even the government tourism organisations by surprise.

Tourism is one of Australia's growth industries and the recent drop in the Aussie dollar has made its sunny shores a far more attractive proposition for travellers than just a few months ago.

The new Tourism e-kit is produced by The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, (ATDW), which is owned by all the State/Territory government tourism organisations, as well as Tourism Australia.

The kit, claimed to be the country’s largest free online e-marketing course for Australian tourism operators, is comprised of 37 tutorials to date and aims to offer a comprehensive, easy to understand, education process for Australian tourism businesses. It incorporates information about basic online marketing concepts to more complex issues.  Each tutorial is designed to be read in less than 25 minutes.

According to ATDW the current appetite of Australian operators to catch up with the rest of the world on their online marketing prowess was highlighted by the massive take-up of the e-kit, with more than 10,000 downloads of the entire program and thousands of downloads of the single tutorials, just 14 days after its launch.

“I’m a bit gob smacked.  In all the years I’ve worked around the tourism industry, I’ve never known of a tool to be so heavily utilised.  It’s wonderful,” ATDW CEO, Liz Ward said.

“Finding clear, unbiased information about the various components of digital strategy has proven difficult so when the e-kit was released, I fell upon it eagerly and was not disappointed,” Port Arthur Marketing Manager, Andrew Ross said.

“Perhaps most importantly, it describes how one can fit various elements of online marketing   together.  It even offers advice about prioritisation of steps; essential to most of us who balance these tasks with our many other responsibilities”, he said.

The Tourism e-kit can be downloaded as an entire program or separate tutorials through ATDW’s corporate website.
