Huawei Australia and RMIT University are teaming to deliver training in high-speed communications technology and related applications.

The agreement between Huawei and RMIT will see an expected 500 students trained by the university over the next three years. Discussions are underway with other universities to increase this number to as many as 2000 around the country.

The training will cover a variety of technologies including Long Term Evolution (LTE), fibre Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and next-generation broadband applications.

Classrooms will be equipped with the latest equipment and devices from Huawei, and the company will provide permanent staff to provide teaching assistance.

"The partnership between RMIT University and Huawei will help place Australia at the forefront of next generation technology, applications and innovation," said Huawei's chief technology officer, Peter Rossi.

"This is especially timely given that the ICT industry is in need of a highly-skilled workforce to make full use of the National Broadband Network," he added.
