Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Two ICT students at Victoria University will benefit from a state government program to promote skills development. Netsolutions is providing the opportunities for industry experience.
Netsolutions is working with Victoria University under the Victorian Government's ICT skills university scholarships program.
"The ICT skills program, funded by the Victorian Government, is a fantastic opportunity for students to take part in a work placement as part of their course and learn from IT professionals," said Hao Shi, an associate professor in the School of Engineering and Science at Victoria University.
"Netsolutions has an excellent reputation in the industry as one of the leading providers of IT infrastructure and we are delighted that they have decided to participate in the program."
The program provides ICT students with industry based learning opportunities intended to improve professional and personal skills.
Two final-year students at Victoria University have been selected for the scholarships, which are funded for 2010.
They will spend two 12-week placements with Netsolutions, working on a new integrated security management platform at the company's Port Melbourne R&D centre.
"We are looking forward to working with Victoria University to drive service and product innovation through fresh and talented skill-sets. In return, the students gain practical experience and contacts within our industry," said Netsolutions' general manger Erin Harte.
The program is part of the state government's $1.84 million ICT skills package within the Building Our Industries for the Future strategy.
"The Brumby Labor Government is committed to working closely with the education sector to strengthen links with industry and encourage a practical approach to learning," John Lenders, Minister for Information and Communication Technology.
"The ICT Skills University Scholarships Program provides students with the skills they need to succeed in the ICT industry and keep Victoria at the forefront of new technology," he added.
