Just weeks after announcing Japanese giant NTT would buy it for £2.1 billion, Dimension Data has embarked on an Australian recruitment spree – announcing that it is looking for 170 new personnel over the next six months to meet rising market demand.
The decision to hire a large pool of additional staff, demonstrated that it was business as usual in spite of the takeover according to local CEO Steve Nola. He said people applying for Dimension Data roles should be confident about the jobs on offer, and not worry that NTT might attempt some cost cutting when it finalises the purchase.
“I’m not expecting any sorts of cost savings moves because there are none to be had,” he told iTWire. “NTT will leave us as a separate unit and not integrate us.”
Asked why he was so confident that a telecommunications company and systems integrator could comfortably co-exist, when this had not proved the case for Telstra and Kaz, Nola said “I am confident they won’t go down the path some other telcos have with trying to integrate with an SI.”
In Australia Dimension Data currently employs 1150 people, with plans to grow that to 1320 by the end of September, and 1500 by year’s end. It is however searching for tech talent just as skills supply tightens.
In a media release issued this morning Nola acknowledged the looming skills shortage. He claimed however that; “Throughout the turbulent times of 2009 we continued our commitment to the company’s learning and development program. We focus a lot of energy on ensuring that we deliver value to our people, respond to feedback and reward performance.
