Candle ICT opens ICT Federal in ACT as govt projects ramp up

IT People - Recruitment

ICT recruiter, Candle ICT, has launched Candle ICT Federal in Canberra and appointed of Sam Tufui as national manager. Tufui joins Candle ICT Federal from Verossity (formerly Spherion) in Canberra. He has over seven years Canberra based Federal Government technology recruitment experience from previous positions with Peoplebank, Morgan and Banks Technology and DMA Recruitment Australia.

According to Candle, with a number of projects such as the ATO Change Program and the combined Centrelink / DEWR Welfare to Work scheme gaining momentum and new proposals such as the Medicare smartcard announced in February, demand for ICT professionals in Canberra is strong.  Experienced business analysts and project managers are already in short supply.

Candle ICT Federal's service offering will be tailored specifically to government requirements, providing a dedicated team of recruiters with a sound understanding of government processes such as procurement cycles and security clearance procedures.   Existing Candle ICT federal contracts and ICT contractors will transition to the new branch in the coming weeks.

"This year we are seeing a marked increase in government spending on electronic service delivery across departments and agencies with the aim of reducing costs and improving services," says Tufui. "Approaching 30 June, there will be further vacancies opening up as a result of the end of financial year churn.'

Candle says Canberra jobs in demand include: Business Analysts; Software Engineers - especially C++ and Java; Project Managers - especially applications and communications (certifications are important); Database Analysts (SQL Server and DB2); Solutions architects and Testers.
