Ashworth says this tallies with the importance that
prospective employers place on work experience, and a view shared by
the ACS Foundation which promotes the concept of mandatory Work
Integrated Learning for all ICT students.
And, according to Frank Raydan, director of
Approach Recruiting, the ICT industry is going through what is known as
‘the seven year cycle’.
“What we are experiencing today is no different to the state of the
marketplace seven years ago. IT was struggling post Y2K and dot com and
employers tightened their belts and raised expectations.
“In order to be successful at securing a good job in IT, candidates
need to have excellent hands-on skills, the necessary certifications
and good people skills.”
