Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
John Ridge, a prominent member of the Australian Computer Society, has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for his "service to the information technology industry – in particular through the promotion and development of professional organisations and the creation of educational opportunities."
Ridge has held a number of positions within the ACS, including terms as President, Vice President and New South Wales Branch Chairman.
The award appears to recognise his work as the inaugural Chairman and current Executive Director of the ACS Foundation, which has raised over $A9 million in cash and in-kind donations for scholarships and research since its formation in 2001. So far, over 600 scholarships have been granted to high achievers and people who are disadvantaged.
Current ACS President Philip Argy welcomed the news: "We are pleased [Ridge's] dedication and achievements have been acknowledged by the nation, with a Member of the Order of Australia. This is a well deserved honour and one we hope will be widely acknowledged by the ICT community."
