Hosting provider Rackspace has made two local appointments following the recent launch of its Australian data centre.

Peter MacGee joints the company as Australian data centre manager.

"The launch of our data centre was a huge success, with customers, partners and industry tremendously excited about the news. Hiring the right person to run it was a vital local decision," said Mark Randall, Rackspace Hosting Australia and New Zealand country manager.

"MacGee's customer service focus in previous roles made him perfect for one of our most important positions in Australia. We're a very hands-on company, with 85% of Rackers in customer facing roles," he added

Mr MacGee has over 15 years experience of the Australian telecommunications and IT service provider industry, and most recently worked at fixed wireless provider BigAir.

"This [Rackspace's Australian data centre] isn't just significant infrastructure locally, it's an important part of the company's global strategy and I'm very excited to be an active part of it," he said.

Chad McCathie has rejoined Rackspace in the role of network security engineer.

He first joined Rackspace in the UK in 2006, but subsequently moved to Australia, where he most recently worked for Macquarie Telecom as a network operations centre engineer.
