Chinese-owned ICT outsourcing services company, VanceInfo, is expanding its operation in Victoria with the addition of 60 new jobs as it continues strong growth of its business since establishing its Australian and New Zealand regional headquarters in Melbourne last year.

The expansion of VanceInfo in the state was announced by the Victorian Premier, Ted Baillieu, at a business breakfast in Beijing yesterday as part of a week-long trade mission to China.

Mr Baillieu announced total new Chinese investment in Victoria of up to $200 million, with the creation of 260 manufacturing and ICT jobs, including the 60 jobs to be created by VanceInfo.

The Premier said Anhui Joy Sense Cable, which manufactures aluminium alloy cables used in power distribution networks and urban and industrial construction projects – and already has three factories in China with a value of approximately $4 billion - would create up to 200 jobs and invest up to $200 million to establish a manufacturing base in Victoria.

The Premier said VanceInfo had achieved significant growth in Victoria since announcing it was establishing its Australian and New Zealand headquarters in Melbourne, and committing to 100 new jobs by the end of 2012.

“I welcome news of VanceInfo’s growth in Victoria and today’s announcement is a significant boost for our local ICT industry.

“VanceInfo’s commitment to creating new, highly skilled jobs in Victoria is not only indicative of our strong relationship with China around ICT, but it also reaffirms the strength of our local industry with access to a highly skilled ICT workforce.

“Victoria is an innovative technology hub, with a global reputation for cost-effectiveness and a commitment to delivering world-class products and services.

“Victoria offers China – our leading trading partner – globally-focused expertise in the development and application of technologies to assist China’s growth.”

Mr Baillieu said Victoria already had expertise and skills in a range of areas for which demand would grow in China, “including knowledge-based services, such as information and communication technology.

The Premier told the audience of Chinese and Australian business leaders in Beijing that Victoria had one of the strongest and most resilient economies in the world, with a AAA credit rating affirmed by both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s, as well as a “diverse range of manufacturing and service industries supported by world class research and educational infrastructure and a multi-lingual and highly educated workforce.”
