Security software vendor Sophos has appointed Ashley Wearne as general manager for the ANZ region.

"It was important to find a candidate that is both the right fit for the organisation and very capable of effectively managing a large team to meet the goals we've set to ensure Sophos's ongoing success in the region," said Asia Pacific regional managing director Stuart Fisher.

"With Wearne's extensive management expertise and strong channel track record, I'm confident he is the right person for the job and will excel at Sophos."

Mr Wearne has more than 25 years experience in the security and software industry.

He has held sales, marketing and management positions at a range of companies including Adobe, McAfee, Novell and Unisys.

"I am delighted to be joining Sophos at a time when our customers face new technology trends such as 'cloud computing', the adoption of mobile applications and employees bringing their own devices into the workplace," said Mr Wearne.

"It's a time when everyone wants security solutions with less complexity and lower cost, at the same time as needing to focus on core business. Part of my new role is to remind businesses that complete security is a non-negotiable."
