Microsoft's Skype division has appointed Elisa Steele corporate vice president of marketing.

"Following a broad global search, we're excited to add Elisa Steele to our leadership ranks, as she possesses both the passion and experience to promote, protect and grow the Skype brand," said Skype president Tony Bates.

Ms Steele joins Skype from Yahoo!, where she was executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

She previously served as senior vice president of corporate marketing at NetApp, and also led Sun Microsystem's marketing and merchandising operation.

Her resume also includes marketing management positions at iPlanet eCommerce Solutions and JavaSoft, and sales management at AT&T.

Ms Steele holds an MBA from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.
