Conroy wins award for NBN vision

Communications minister, senator Stephen Conroy, has won the 2011 award from Global Telecoms Business magazine for "the most significant personal contribution to telecommunications," for his work in developing the National Broadband Network.

Global Telecoms Business editor, Alan Burkitt-Gray called the NBN "the boldest, most exciting project in the delivery of fixed and mobile broadband services in the world today."

The award was one of over 30 presented in London on 7 June, across six categories. Conroy's award, and one to Bell Labs for The Alcatel-Lucent LightRadio technology, were awarded by Global Telecoms Business editors, the others by a panel of judges.

UniTV - a joint project between Ericsson and The Institute for the Broadband Enabled Society (IBES) also won an award - for innovation in remote education.
