Microsoft veteran Bob Muglia will leave the company this northern summer.

Bob Muglia, president of Microsoft's server and tools division will leave the company this northern summer after 23 years at Microsoft.

The division covers products such as Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, and Azure (Microsoft's push into the cloud computing space). It is one of the most profitable parts of the business.

The news follows the departure of Stephen Elop, head of the business division, and Robbie Back, president of the entertainment and devices division, during 2010. Co-founder Bill Gates stepped down from day-to-day involvement with the company in mid 2008, though he remains non-executive chairman.

According to an email sent to employees by CEO Steve Ballmer, "Bob Muglia and I have been talking about the overall business and what is needed to accelerate our growth. (That sounds similar to the message put out by AMD about the departure of its former CEO Dirk Meyer.)
