Steve Jobs: CEO of the Decade

IT People - People

Apple's Steve Jobs has been dubbed CEO of the Decade by a News Corp controlled web site.

In recognition of Apple's transformation into the biggest company in the IT industry (as measured by market capitalisation), its development of "game-changing" computers and devices, and the delivery of remarkable returns to investors, US web site Market Watch has named Steve Jobs as the CEO of the Decade.

Market Watch noted that during a decade when the S&P 500 index has dropped by 7%, Apple shares have multiplied in value by a factor of 43.

During those 10 years, Apple introduced the iPod, iTunes (and the iTunes Store), iPhone (and the App Store, together bringing the smartphone to the person in the street), the iPad, and Mac OS X. The company also repeatedly remodelled the Mac lineup, making the MacBook range one of the 'must have' notebook computers, especially among US students.

MarketWatch is part of the Wall Street Journal network of sites. The WSJ is part of Dow Jones, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

News Corp is believed to be working with Apple on a daily digital newspaper (called The Daily) that will be delivered to iPads.
