Symantec has moved to strengthen its sales and marketing focus on the public sector in Australia and broadly across the Pacific region market with the appointment of a director for public sector sales.
Craig Scroggie, vice president and managing director for Symantec in the Pacific region, said Greg Sly had been appointed to the position to drive federal government sales, strengthen Symantec's position in the public sector, and to be responsible for the company's business in South Australia.
Scroggie said Sly joined Symantec in 2007 and was most recently the APJ specialist sales manager for compliance and security. 'He has extensive knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand public sector markets, gathered over more than 15 years of sales experience specialising in security, storage and systems management software. Greg previously held a number of roles at Objective Corporation and began his career as a research scientist for the Australian Institute of Sport.'
Scroggie said Sly's appointment demonstrated the 'high calibre of the team at Symantec that we were able to make such an important appointment from within the organisation.' 'The public sector is a crucial part of our business and I'm confident that Greg will be successful in meeting the needs of both federal government and South Australia,' Scroggie said.
Sly said government IT departments are constantly faced with the challenge of making information readily accessible and yet secure to a broad array of user communities at the same time. 'This, coupled with rising data growth and emerging technology capabilities in complex IT environments, has placed increased pressure on governments to better secure and manage their IT environments.'
According to Sly, Symantec is an 'ideal position to help improve the ability for public sector organisations to protect and manage critical information.'
