Macquarie Telecom has created a new role of category manager for wireless data to extend its 'Access Anywhere' services and develop "innovative mobility offerings" for Australian business and government and has appointed Terry Pickering to the position.
Pickering will be based in Melbourne and responsible for the development of the company's wireless data product portfolio which includes wireless broadband (3G and EVDO), Blackberry, GPRS services, secure remote network access and MessageNet.

Pickering was most recently commercial manager, wireless data services at Telstra, responsible for overseeing the development of a range of products in the wireless data space. Previous to that he held a variety of roles at Telstra, including product manager for contact centre solutions and commercial analyst within Telstra Business Solutions.

Macquarie's sales and marketing director, Chris Greig, said the company had seen extremely strong growth in wireless email services as organisations had realised productivity benefits from having remote access to email and calendar applications. “The market however is starting to look beyond that. Business and government now want to access business specific applications, such as CRM or logistics applications, on their mobile devices."
