New head for Linksys as founders focus on Cisco China

IT People - People

Michael Pocock has been named senior vice president and general manager of Cisco's Linksys business unit, formed from the acquisition of the same name that provides VoIP, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer, SOHO and small business markets.
Linksys' founders Victor and Janie Tsao, who have shared the SVP/GM role since the acquisition by Cisco in 2003, will now focus their efforts on new opportunities in China for Cisco.

In his new role, Pocock will oversee worldwide Linksys operations, sales, marketing, human resources, training, customer advocacy and all product development and engineering.

He was most recently president and CEO of the Polaroid Corporation which he joined in 2003. Prior to this he held a variety of leadership roles at Xerox, Epson, Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq and General Electric. He will report to Charles Giancarlo, Cisco SVP, chief development officer and Linksys president.

Victor and Janie Tsao will continue to report to Giancarlo as they develop new business opportunities for Cisco in China. They will seek out business investment opportunities, work to collaborate and build relationships with local businesses, and explore new product markets for Cisco and Linksys.

Janie Tsao, said: "We have more than doubled our revenue since we were acquired in 2003 and we think the organisation will benefit from someone with more experience in managing multi-billion dollar corporations. After 18 years of growing with the company, it's bittersweet to hand it off, but Victor and I are looking forward to sharing our experience with Cisco's customers and colleagues in China and bringing additional value to the entire Cisco organisation."
