The Internet Society of Australia (ISOC-AU) has appointed Sophos Asia Pacific managing director, Rob Forsyth, to its board of director for 2010.
Forsyth joins the ISOC board while still
retaining his current role with Sophos and as the deputy chairman for
the Internet Industry Association (IIA).
Prior to this new appointment, Forsyth was employed by the Sydney
Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and during the 90’s he was a
member of the NSW Branch executive committee of the Australia Computer
Society.
The non-profit ISOC-AU promotes the development of the Internet in
Australia’s business, academic, professional and private communities,
as well as providing technical advice on Internet public policy for its
40,000-plus members.
According to Forsyth, he has joined the ISOC-AU in the hope of
“contributing to the positive transformation of the Internet as the
technology becomes the mainstay of most aspects of both business and
personal communications.”
“As technology develops at a rapid pace, the Internet is undoubtedly
continuing to change the way we operate as individuals – and society
will evolve in exciting ways as a consequence. Joining the ISOC-AU is
a great way to be involved in creating beneficial policies and emerging
governance that will improve online security and safety for all
internet users.
“This is also a good opportunity to raise broad community awareness of
the security risks and potential crimes among our local communities.
In particular, both extremes of our community are vulnerable; the young
and those more recently exposed to technology for the first time.
Australia has the potential to lead the world’s best practice in online
security and safety.”
