Alcatel Australasia gets new CTO

Alcatel has appointed Ric Clark as chief technology officer for Australasia, effective January 9, 2006.

Based in Melbourne, he will be responsible for strategic marketing and direction on the development of Alcatel's products and services in the Australian, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea markets.

Clark was most recently chief operating officer of NICTA with a particular focus on commercialisation and intellectual property activities. Prior to that he was managing director of Ericsson's research and development company, Ericsson Asia Pacific Lab Australia, which employed 450 people and which as closed down by Ericsson in mid 2003. He has also acted as a director on several ICT start-ups.

Alcatel Australasia has not had a dedicated CTO since the former holder of the position, Vince Pizzica, was promoted to CTO for Alcatel Asia Pacific in 2004. He relocated to Alcatel's regional headquarters in Shanghai but has continued to act as CTO for Australia.
