New Sybase 365 ANZ head as company chases regional growth

Sybase subsidiary, mobile information services vendor Sybase 365, has appointed a new head of its Australian and New Zealand business, as it looks to grow its enterprise messaging marketshare in the region.

Sybase 365 senior director of sales in Asia Pacific, Matthew Tonkin, today announced the appointment of Sam Skontos as regional director for Australia and New Zealand, who he said was “charged with further growing the company’s enterprise messaging business in the region,” and to “nurture and expand Sybase 365’s market leadership in the mobile operator space.”

According to Tonkin, Skontos brings “impressive leadership skills and more than 22 years sales and management experience to his new role.  As regional director, he will be responsible for developing and executing on Sybase 365’s business strategy for the company’s innovative mobile commerce, mobile messaging and data roaming (GRX[1] <#_ftn1> ) interoperability solutions.

Skontos joins Sybase 365 from Sagem Australasia, where he was general manager sales for Australasia of the company’s mobile phone division. Skontos previously worked for more than 15 years in ICT sales, including at Vodafone Australia, Virgin Mobile, Optus, IntelliSys Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Australia and Texas Instruments Australia.
