Chu said that at Google, Armstrong was head of auto, local and classifieds and was a member of the Australian leadership team responsible for vertical strategy and business planning.

“His new role will leverage his experience as a leader and proven business acumen to build FirstClick’s profile in Melbourne and help existing and new clients get outstanding results from their search marketing.”

Armstrong, who said he wanted to show business “how effective search marketing can be when utilised strategically and correctly,” began his online career with LookSmart in 1997, and also worked at Sensis before moving to Google to establish its Melbourne office in 2006.

Based at FirstClick in Sydney, Stuart Bartram will be responsible for new business development.

According to Bartram, search has moved on from ‘nice to have’ to ‘must have’ for any company with an online presence, and “every C-suite executive is now, more than ever aware of the return on investment and measurability of search marketing and this makes it a very dynamic place to be.”

Bartram joins FirstClick from Google company, DoubleClick, where he was business development director for Australia and New Zealand, and previously worked for Commission Junction in London.
