Cape Range Wireless hires telco veteran as CEO

Perth based developer of broadband wireless technology, Cape Range Wireless, has named a veteran of the international telecommunications industry, David Hills as CEO.

Announcing his appointment Cape Range, chairman, Ron Wise, said: "David, with his 30 plus years experience in telecoms, will guide the board to migrate the company to the next level of global commercialisation and will build the sales and marketing organisation."

Hills was most recently director of wireless operations with Nortel Networks in Europe and before that executive director for technology of the global GSM Association, based in London.

He had earlier been director of customer business management for Lucent Technologies in Europe and the USA and director of business development for wireless local loop and microcellular systems with Motorola Europe. The first 17 years of his career with BT in the UK and elsewhere. He will relocate to Perth.

The Cape Range wireless technology has been under development for a number of years and initial orders have been placed by carriers in Malaysia and Bangladesh.

According to Wise: "The company has been working with PeoplesTel in Bangladesh for nearly a year, during which time it has worked through all of the issues relating to integration and rollout on a large scale. There have been delays due to faulty third party products such as antennas, cabling and minor manufacturing issues which have now been resolved.

"Manufacturing and shipment of the first 11,000 lines required for PeoplesTel is continuing at the production facilities in Malaysia and is being matched closely to the PeoplesTel network rollout requirements...approximately 2,000 customers are currently being connected by PeoplesTel utilizing equipment already delivered to Bangladesh."
