BT executive to head Telecom New Zealand

IT People - People

Telecom New Zealand has named Dr Paul Reynolds , currently CEO of BT Wholesale, as its new CEO to replace Theresa Gattung who announced plans to resign on 30 June several months ago.

Reynolds joined BT in 1983 after completing a doctorate in geology at the University of London. Since then he has held senior leadership roles in sales and marketing, strategy, information systems, broadband, and most recently in guiding BT's wholesale business through the complex process of operational separation. This experience attracted Telecom NZ, which itself is facing a similar government-imposed structural separation.

Telecom chairman Wayne Boyd, claimed that "Globally there are few leaders in the telecommunications industry with Paul's combination of skills, knowledge and experience. Paul has led programmes of significant change at one of the world's largest telecommunications companies, in a regulatory environment that has parallels to New Zealand's."

Reynolds has been appointed for an indefinite period on a base salary of $NZ1.75 million per annum, plus an annual performance incentive with a target value of $NZ1.75 million, to be delivered 60 percent in cash and 40 percent in restricted shares (subject to shareholder approval). He will also be eligible for a long-term incentive of up to $NZ1.75 million by way of performance share rights with a zero-exercise price, subject to the approval of shareholders.
