The Australian Computer Society has elected seven new fellows, the society's highest membership grade and one that recognises members who have made a distinguished contribution to the field of information technology in Australia.
"The Fellowships highlight to the general community the high level of talented ICT professionals that we have in Australia and with three out of the seven fellowships being awarded to women, this demonstrates the crucial role women play in the success of Australia's ICT industry," said Philip Argy, ACS president.
The new fellows and their areas of contribution are:
Dr David Mackay - ICT education and research; development of electronic data interchange
Dr Elspeth McKay - ICT education and open learning systems
Professor Zbigniew Michaelewicz - teaching and application of adaptive business intelligence (ABI)
Professor Robyn Owens - linkage between academia and ICT; computer vision
Mr Anthony J Rosser – integrating ICT development within industry and government in Western Australia
Dr Jan Seruga - ICT education and research; network security
Dr Leonilla O Warne - social learning in organisations, knowledge management and network-centric warfare
