IT&T employer sentiment strong as firms upgrade

Employment expectations within the Australian IT industry are strong, despite a slight decline in sentiment from the last quarter of 2006, according to the latest Hudson Report Employment Expectations survey.

The survey, released by recruiter Hudson, polled 7,104 employers and showed that almost one in two employers in the IT industry plan to increase permanent staff levels during the March ’07 quarter (46.8%), while 3.9% expect to reduce staffing levels, translating to a net effect of +42.8%.

The results represent a marginal 0.8 percentage point (pp) decline from the previous quarter, but a 5.7% increase in sentiment from a year earlier.

A breakdown of the results showed:


·         Net +42.8% of IT employers to increase staff in March quarter 2007

·         Net +43.3% of telecommunications industry will add to workforce
