Effective immediately, Avaya's Australian Technology Strategy & Development team has been disbanded and most employees made redundant.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that US-based Senior Vice President & President, Avaya Global Services, Chris Formant flew to Sydney over the weekend to deliver the news.
According to the sources, the entire Technology Strategy & Development team based in Avaya's North Ryde premises permanently "left the building" on the same day the redundancies were announced, although due to the general reluctance of team-members to speak out, it appears that pay-outs have not yet been made.
Apparently, the company has retained just two technical managers to assist with the completion of a contract call centre project, but even those people don't expect to have a job beyond the end of March when the contract is completed.
Other R&D teams have been left largely unscathed, but for some years, people departing from those teams have not been replaced, resulting in increasingly critical resourcing issues.
Think again. Most businesses only have PART of a DR plan - and this spells business disaster in the event of an IT disaster.
