Demand for senior IT people surged in final quarter of 2005 pushing the the number of jobs on offer in December to a level nearly 40% higher than for the same period in 2004, according to newly released survey.
The E.L Executive Demand Index, compiled monthly from advertised job vacancies by executive search firm E.L Consult, showed that IT sector senior positions on offer surged 14% in December to finish the year with three consecutive months of increases.
Gains in the government sector guaranteed the overall rise, with Victoria, South Australia and the ACT pushing demand higher. Falls in the New South Wales and Queensland offline government sectors did not lead the E.L index into the red.
The online space was stronger than advertising taken out in newspapers. Overall, demand for executives was 38% higher in December 2005 than December 2004, making IT the most dramatically improved professional sector for top jobs - albeit coming off a relatively low base.
