Jobs in the IT and Telecoms space are disappearing at an ever increasing rate with figures for October capping off the worst year for the sector since the dot com bust, according to a new report.
According to new figures from the Olivier Job
Index, from recruitment firm Olivier Group, after four years of solid
growth, 2008 may well be remembered as the year when it all fell apart
for IT&T jobs.
Olivier has been tracking jobs across professional sectors, including
IT&T, on the major Internet jobs boards for a number of years and
the latest figuresshow little cause for comfort.
The jobs decline is accelerating at a frightening pace, with the last
three months proving to be the worst quarter by far in the past year.
The IT&T jobs sector fell 2.28% in October and is down 23% over 12
months. What's more the IT&T sector has been in decline for all of
2008.
A spokesman for Olivier Group said the latest figures for the IT&T
jobs sector showed that there was a quickening in the decline.
Of the 23% decline over the past 12 months, 20% has been in the past six months and 13% has been in the past 3 months.
"The rate of the decline has been increasing and the (downward) curve is getting steeper," the spokesman said.
