Permanent jobs on the way up, says Peoplebank

IT People - Enterprise

"When companies are feeling confident, they try to put permanent staff on, when they lose a bit of confidence (in the market) they put people on a contract. (But) companies prefer permanents.”

“Peoplebank is currently in the process of integrating the two IT infrastructures having relocated staff in Canberra, Perth and Melbourne to new offices, with the Sydney move to happen on Anzac weekend, followed by Adelaide and Brisbane in mid-May. It now has 270 staff having made “only three or four redundant”.

“So far we’ve meshed the communications networks and made sure email and connections work from a location point of view,” Lau says.

The challenge now is to ensure the two culturally-opposed companies don’t clash.

Ambit was an aggressive sales and marketing-driven company operating in the corporate market, while public Peoplebank held a different stance working mostly to service long-term government contracts.

“In February we launched the Project One team which is bringing the two cultures together to make sure there are no cultural clashes. We’re trying to produce the best of both cultures.

“In the next two to three months we’re going to bed down integration, then go for a strong growth year (to) consolidate our position as the largest IT&T recruitment agency in Australia.”

Future plans may include expansion to Asia through more mergers and acquisitions, he says.
