Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Unisys Australia intends to ramp up its staff numbers by 100 in Canberra to deliver on the new regional information communication technology (ICT) support services contract with the Australian Department of Defence which was announced in February. The $240 million five year contract is the biggest win that Unisys has ever had in the Asia Pacific region and promises to keep the preferred recruitment agency Candle busy.
The vast majority of the roles appear to be entry
level permanent IT operational support roles servicing the 460 Defence
sites across Australia, with an additional four permanent management
level roles advertised on Candle's site.
According to Unisys, a significant number of staff will come from
existing in-house ICT workers at the Department of Defence who, in a
classic outsourcing transition, will now find themselves working for
Unisys.
“Canberra will be the hub of the Unisys Defence program given Unisys
will be co-locating critical service delivery management and specialist
technical support groups in Canberra with their Defence counterparts,”
said Dominic Welfare, Senior HR Business Partner, Unisys.
“This will enable more effective services to be provided to the 100,000
users of the Defence Restricted and Secret networks across Australia.
“These positions present a unique opportunity to contribute to a
project that will improve the effectiveness of one of the most
important Commonwealth Government departments,” Mr Welfare said.
Unisys will provide a range of IT support services, including network
security and infrastructure support, server and desktop support of over
100,000 desktop computers running Windows XP across all Defence
business groups.
Positions advertised on Candle's site include the entry level position
of Service Level Coordinators with skill and experience levels of IT
graduate plus one year work experience and a knowledge of Windows XP.
Other more senior positions advertised are Regional Service Delivery
Manager, Service Level Reporting Analyst, Reporting Manager, and
Service Level Control Manager.
