A survey of ads on Internet jobs boards in Australia during December 2007 revealed particularly strong demand for IT and Telecoms staff compared with the same period in the previous year.
The Olivier Job Index report from recruitment
firm Olivier Group, which will be released in detail tomorrow, recorded
a 5% rise in IT&T job ads (seasonally adjusted) in December 2007,
despite the festive season.
This was a significantly stronger month than the same time last year
and represents 35% growth for the IT&T jobs sector over 12 months.
The report, which will be released in detail tomorrow, showed that in
December 2007, 14.9% of IT&T job ads were for
‘Instruction/Writing/Training’ roles and 6% of the job ads were for
‘Software Development & Engineering’.
However, there were some losers for the final month of the year.
Demand for ‘Database Development & Admin’ and ‘Hardware Engineering Systems’ roles fell over 5% in December 2007.
While IT&T jobs growth was significant for the year, it was dwarfed
by jobs growth in some other sectors such as building, which grew 98%,
advertising and media (68%), trades and services (64%); engineering and
mining (62%) and administration (61%).
