Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
ShoreTel is presently privately held and has been funded to $US100 million by several leading venture capitalists. However the official line is that it is a 'pre-public' company indicating that an IPO is in the offing. Warhurst declined to comment.
ShoreTel has been relatively slow to move outside its home market of North America - it now has offices in the UK, Germany and Australia. Nevertheless it claims to be "the fastest growing IP PBX company worldwide." It does not disclose financial data but according to Warhurst, revenues doubled last year an growth is accelerating.
Once the Australian and New Zealand business is established Warhurst is charged with expanding operations up into Asia. He named Singapore, Thailand and India as initial targets saying that the first would probably be Singapore. However ShoreTel has one very large global customer - Viacom with 12,000 handsets in a worldwide network - and is already supplying and supporting its products for installation around the world.
ShoreTel claims a number of key differentiators for its technology: handsets have additional intelligence so in a network of ShoreTel IP PBXs, if the unit to which they are connected fails they are able to automatically reconnect to another unit in the network. The company also claims to have the only IP telephony product that emulates key system functionality across it entire range: systems designed for 10 to up to 10,000 users.
