Websense to acquire PortAuthority

IT Industry - Strategy

Websense has announced a definitive agreement to acquire PortAuthority Technologies for around $90 million in cash.

There's a nice symmetry to the deal: Websense stops the nasties getting into your network, while PortAuthority stops confidential information from leaking out. The two companies already have an OEM agreement.

"Through this planned acquisition, Websense gains not only PortAuthority technology but the security-savvy engineers that have developed this industry-leading technology," said Websense CEO Gene Hodges. "Websense is committed to maintaining PortAuthority’s research and development presence in Israel and retaining the engineering talent responsible for this innovative technology."

The deal - which involves the merger of PortAuthority with a Websense subsidiary - is expected to be closed by the end of January 2007.
