Japanese electronics giant Pioneer Corporation and Korean electronics monolith Samsung are to do battle in a US District court over what Pioneer claims are infringements of its plasma patents.

Pioneer has filed a lawsuit against Samsung SDI and several other Samsung companies in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas alleging SDI's infringement of Pioneer patents related to plasma display panel technology.

Pioneer is seeking a court order against further sales of alleged infringing SDI products and compensation for alleged past infringement.

In a statement, Pioneer said that it is a leading innovator in PDP technology and has developed a portfolio of fundamental patents in the field.
