Google has announced yet another round of closures involving its less-successful services.

April saw Google announce the end of multiple Google products and services, including GoogleSync for BlackBerry, Patent Search (now part of web search), Picasa for Linux, Picasa Web Albums Uploader for Mac, Picasa Web Albums Plugin for iPhoto, OnePass, the Google Talk mobile web app, and Google Related.

And last month saw EOL announcements for iGoogle, the Symbian Search App, Google Video, Google Talk Chatback, and the Google Mini search applicance.

Now comes news that another batch of services headed for the big bit-bucket in the sky.

Google Apps for Teams proved "not as useful for people as we originally anticipated" according to director of engineering Max Ibel, and so these accounts are being converted to personal accounts starting early next month.

The Google Listen podcatcher app has been discontinued due to the availability of a range of similar apps in Google Play. Existing subscriptions can be exported from or heard via Google Reader.

Google Video for Business - intended for business and educations customers of Google Apps that wanted to use video for internal communication - is also being scrapped, with existing videos being moved to Google Drive (without impinging on the user's storage quota).

The company also intends to rationalise its more than 150 blogs so that information is posted to the more popular ones rather than languishing in quiet corners. (A good start would be to ensure that all relevant items are cross-posted to News from Google which has seen just ten posts in almost two years.)
