Telstra has unveiled an impressive travelling showcase to promote its NBN-based products and services.

The converted shipping container, named the 'Telstra Fibre Experience Centre - with the words "Unlock Amazing" writ large upon it - will make its debut in Townsville this week and will travel to other areas as Telstra launches its NBN service in those locations. It will stay in Townsville until 27 April.

It was manufactured by Conxibit in Melbourne and is a sophisticated beast. When packed for transport it is a closed standard 6m x 2m shipping container. Once on site and unloaded from the truck the sides and ends of the four tonne box open hydraulically to create an 8.6m x 5m platform.

According to Telstra, "The Telstra Fibre Experience Centre... [is] set out as an average home lounge room..[and] offers customers ...an insight into how they can use BigPond broadband, Telstra T-Box, Telstra T-Hub on the NBN...It will be...staffed by experts who will explain the new technology features and their benefits plus how products already in local homes will operate on the new network."

The Centre "will set up in the heart of NBN rollout locations and provide locals with a hands-on experience of Telstra services live on the NBN. [it] provides an open, airy and welcoming space for residents to drop in at their convenience to learn more about Telstra's services on the NBN...[in] a custom-made adaptation of a shipping container to replicate a home style environment."
