A UK mobile operator has come up with a novel idea to get customers with SIM locked handsets to churn to its service.

The operator, Giffgaff is promising to set free a battery hen into a more humane environment for every customer that unlocks their SIM locked phone so it can use a Giffgaff SIM.

If this sounds a bit bizarre, the advertising video promoting the offering is even stranger: it features a fairly elderly gent gallivanting around like a gansta rapper accompanied by an extremely kitch chicken-like dummy.

While this duo might not mean much to Australians, the Financial Times reports that the ad "resurrects a 1980s light entertainment duo: greying ventriloquist Keith Harris...and his puppet Orville the Duck."
