Today is One Dollar Day, and the fundraising campaign is being backed by PayPal which is covering administration costs so that 100% of donations reach the charity.
The appeal is being backed by PayPal, which is absorbing the usual administration fees to ensure 1$day receives 100 cents in the dollar. You can donate here or via the free One Dollar Day game for iPhone and iPad.
Sophie Bartho, 1$Day Limited co-founder and CEO said "The goal of 1$day is simple - to ask everyone who can, to give just $1 for those who can't and to show everyone the impact of their collective $1. We are excited to be working with PayPal to give consumers the convenience, ease and security of donating online and through our mobile application. Mobile has been an integral channel to our campaign and we are excited to engage with a new generation of givers."
According to research carried out by Nielsen for PayPal, just under 10% of Australians are already making charitable donations via their mobile phones.
Frerk-Malte Feller, managing director of PayPal Australia, said "Consumers are changing the way they interact with money and mobile is a powerful new channel to connect with a new generation of givers. We are excited to be working with 1$day on this innovative solution that not only provides a new channel for giving but also provides a fun and new experience for consumers to interact with the charity. We will be actively encouraging our four million active account holders to give $1 today."
1$day has medium-term plans to expand overseas as 1£day and 1€day.
