New regional role for head of Cisco ANZ, Les Williamson

IT Industry - Strategy

The head of Cisco Australia and New Zealand, Les Williamson, has been promoted to lead Cisco's newly created Asia Pacific area that will include South East Asia (Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam) and Australia and New Zealand).

He will continue to report to Edzard Overbeek, president of the overall Asia Pacific, Greater China, India and Japan region. A new head of Cisco Australia and New Zealand will be appointed in the near future and will report into Williamson. The existing Cisco South East Asia leadership team will report into Williamson.

On 5 May Cisco announced a major re-organisation of its sales, services and engineering divisions saying it was focussing on "the five areas driving the growth of networks and the Internet: core routing, switching, and services; collaboration; data centre virtualisation and cloud; video; and architectures for business transformation." (See below)

Cisco said: "In this role, [Williamson] will be responsible for driving profitable growth and market leadership through the innovative use of technologies for a more collaborative and productive business and social environment. [He] has been with Cisco for ten years and has first-hand experience in how Cisco delivers architectural vision and technology to service providers and enterprises to drive innovation and collaboration, take cost out of operational expenditures and reduce time-to-market."

Williamson said: "I am very excited personally and professionally with this expanded opportunity. The mix of hyper growth economies along with developed economies and the diversity of social and political influences is a great challenge and opportunity for Cisco's value to customers and partners - and ensuring we have the team to deliver upon it will be first and foremost."

See page 2 for details of Cisco's re-organisation.
