Nokia's Services Business Unit has announced a new managed services contract with Indian cellular operator, Hutchison Essar and plans to run its global managed services business from India.
Nokia has extended its managed service contract with Hutchison Essar and will eventually run 19 of the operator's 23 regional networks in India, as well as take on more Essar personnel.
Nokia Managed Services will be led globally from India from July by Ashish Chowdhary, currently the country head for Nokia Networks in India. He will transition over as the new global head of Managed Services by the end of the year.
According to Bosco Novák, Nokia's senior vice president for services, networks, "Our Services strategy is firmly on track. The fact that our Global Networks Solutions Centre (GNSC) in Chennai is now up and running is further proof of that."
The GNSC started operations in the first half of 2006 and will eventually act as the hub for other Nokia operations centres around the world, offering a range of services including remote care, remote integration, consulting, planning and optimisation.
In addition to managed services, Nokia Services offerings include field operations, network availability, mobility hosting, and network performance. Services comprises over 30 percent of Nokia Networks' revenues.
