NBN Co hires marketing chief

NBN Co has appointed former Hitachi marketing executive, Tim Smith, to the role of general manager marketing, to promote its products and services to service providers.

Smith will report to Jim Hassell, head of product development and sales and he will be primarily responsible for promoting the NBN to access seekers rather than to the general public.

Hassell said: "This role will be important in our marketing of NBN products and services to access seekers, and I'm pleased we have attracted someone with Tim's background in business-to-business marketing in the ITC sector."

He added: "NBN Co has already developed a comprehensive set of information in relation to its products and pricing. The Product and Pricing Overview was released just before Christmas, and we have also released information for industry consultation on our accreditation and on-boarding processes, as well as detailed information about proposed B2B interfaces."

Smith was senior marketing manager at Hitachi, a company he joined in 2002. On his LinkedIn profile he describes this role as, encompassing "holistic marketing responsibilities encompassing all aspects of Hitachi's enterprise business and channel for Hitachi Data Systems [including] business strategy development, growth initiatives, marketing vision & strategy, people management; direct marketing, event management, public relations and brand development.

He describes himself as "an intrapreneurial (sic) business-to-business marketing specialist with a strong track record of identifying business opportunities and translating them into revenue'¦an ability to assimilate large amounts of information on complex products; customer segments; buyer behaviours; customer pain points & market dynamics - then convert them in to an executable business plan that delivers incremental revenue and EBITDA to an organisation."
