Mac App Store accepting submissions

IT Industry - Strategy

Apple has begun soliciting products for its forthcoming Mac App Store. Members of the Apple Developer Connection have been invited to submit their wares for review.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the Mac App Store last month at the event that previewed Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and introduced iLife '11, FaceTime for Mac, and the new MacBook Airs.

The idea is that it will make buying Mac applications as easy as buying songs from the iTunes store or iPad/iPhone apps from the App Store. (Intel recently started the AppUp store to encourage software sales to netbook owners.)

A message on Apple's developer web site reads in part: "The Mac App Store will be opening soon, You can get ready by submitting your Mac apps for review now."

Jobs said the Mac App Store would open on January 28.

From the user's perspective, the store should make it easier to find, purchase, install and update applications. Furthermore, purchases will be licensed on all the buyer's personally-owned Macs.
