IT Industry - Strategy

The latest version of free internet telephony service Skype includes a number of new features. However, a particularly interesting one for mobile phone users is the ability to send SMS messages.

The SMS service, which is expected to cost anywhere between 2c to 25c, will enable to send messages to mobiles and include a mobile number to receive return messages.

Other features include a moderated online chat service which can include up to 100 people; the ability to call Outlook contacts directly from Skype; and new ways to pay for the paid services such as SkypeOut.

Skype recently announced that it has 100 million registered users.

Beta downloads of Skype 2.5 are available now but are recommended only for advanced users.
