SingTel has announced the appointment of Mr Hui Weng Cheong as CEO International to succeed Mr Lim Chuan Poh who is retiring. Contrary to some reports, he will not have oversight of Optus.
Hui - who will take up his new role on 1 October - is currently the COO of SingTel's Thai associate, Advanced Info Service (AIS), where he is responsible for sales and marketing, network operations, IT solutions as well as customer and services management.
SingTel Group CEO, Ms Chua Sock Koong, said: 'Our regional business is critical to SingTel Group's continued success. As a strategic investor, we focus on adding value to the operations of our investments by working closely with our associates.
"Given Hui's vast experience and proven capabilities, he is well placed to further grow the Group's overseas investments and deepen relationships with our overseas partners.'
When he takes on his new role Cheong will oversee SingTel associate companies in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Pakistan and Bangladesh and will be one of four senior SingTel executives reporting to Koong, the others being Optus CEO, Paul O'Sullivan, the CEO of SingTel's domestic business in Singapore, Allen Lew, and group CFO, Jeann Low.
