Jobs back at Apple's WWDC

IT Industry - Strategy

Apple CEO Steve Jobs will give the keynote address at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference.

Apple has announced that Steve Jobs will give the keynote address at WWDC 2010, which opens on June 7. Jobs missed the 2009 event as he was on medical leave.

Apple's practice in recent years has been to use WWDC to announce iPhone models, and it is widely believed that 2010 will continue this pattern.

As usual, Apple's statement about the keynote gave no hints of what Jobs will talk about. There is a general expectation that the keynote will include the announcement of a new iPhone, variously dubbed 'iPhone 4G' or 'iPhone HD' by observers.

The publication by Gizmodo of a reasonably detailed description of what is generally accepted to have been a prototype or sample of a 2010 iPhone 'lost' in a Silicon Valley bar is unlikely to stem public or media interest in the new handset.

WWDC runs for five days. Although most of the attention goes to the keynote, the bulk of the event involves advanced training for developers. This year's programme falls into five tracks: application frameworks, Internet and web, graphics and media, developer tools, and Core OS.
