Tait radios to go into 8000 London buses

IT Industry - Strategy

New Zealand based mobile radio communications systems developer, Tait Electronics, ha secured a $18 million contract to install its radios in over 8,000 London buses.

In addition, Tait radios and network equipment will be installed in 90 garages and 171 depots.

The company, whose Australasian operations are based in Brisbane, is supplying its radios and network products to Siemens VDO which is undertaking the whole London Bus fleet upgrade over the next three years. Tait's TM8255 mobile radio terminals and TaitNet TN5100 trunked network products have been customised to integrate with Siemens' equipment, user-interface and data services such as automatic vehicle location.

The news comes on the back of last month's announcement of an $18m contract with Telstra to help upgrade the Victoria StateNet Mobile Radio network in time for the Commonwealth Games.

Tait managing director,  Peter Baines, claimed that: "By winning this contract against strong international competition, we have shown on the world stage that we have technical expertise, integration capability and service organisation to partner with major mobile data organisations such as Siemens VDO. It further endorses our ability to secure and deliver large complex turnkey system projects with customised solutions"
