AT&T to link 135 Orica sites worldwide

IT Industry - Strategy

familyaAT&T has won a $4.8 million two-year networking contract from one of Australia's largest manufacturing companies, Orica, to provide a global MPLS IP-VPN linking 135 sites across Australia, Asia Pacific, Europe, Canada, Latin America and the United States.

The network will give Orica's global staff access to its SAP-based ordering and fulfilment systems to be based in Melbourne under Orica's $10 million SAP consolidation project.

David Vranes, of Orica's IT Shared Service, said: "AT&T was selected ahead of several global competitors who were bidding for the contract because of the company's global reach and long-term experience in the delivery of IP based solutions."

Orica CIO, Leigh Rowe, said: "During the course of the tender, AT&T were always willing to listen to alternatives and put alternatives on the table. AT&T have been very proactive and very keen. We have migrated to an MPLS network which is a new technology for us and so far it has been very successful."
