Ericsson wins 21 year contract from NZ Police

Ericsson has signed a 21-year agreement to supply and support agreement a New Zealand wide microwave radio network for the New Zealand Police to carry both voice and data as IP packets.


Ericsson is also supplying mobile security software, Ericsson Mobile Corporate Access, which the police will use to "turn police cars into mobile police stations". Ericsson has also completed the upgrade of the New Zealand Police's current telephony platform in its rural areas to Ericsson IP telephony. Three thousand IP phones have already been installed and the Police will upgrade the remaining 6,500 Ericsson phones to IP telephony phones using Ericsson's new server based platform, MX-ONE.
